Sandalwood Nut High Tea

Date Posted:16 March 2022

The annual TASTE Great Southern is a culinary food festival consisting of a series of food and wine events spread out over 10 days, from Thursday 5th to Sunday 15th May. As the food bowl of Western Australia, the Great Southern represents one of the most diverse and engaging food and wine regions.

The Sandalwood Shop will be putting on a Sandalwood Nut High Tea at our Albany location this year, on Saturday, 7th May from 2.30 to 4.30pm. We will be highlighting the sandalwood nut with a decadent array of bite sized sweet and savoury morsels for participants to enjoy. We are delighted to have Albany local Parish Lane Wines join us for the event, offering a selection of their wines for tasting during the feast. Since the sandalwood nut is long valued as a bushfood by the indigenous people of Australia, Larry Blight from Kurrah Mia will be on hand to share his extensive knowledge of local bushfoods, with a special focus on the sandalwood nut.

Roasted sandalwood nuts are gluten free, with a unique taste and texture that is akin to the macadamia nut. Smooth, creamy, and highly absorbent to flavours, they are an excellent addition to a variety of dishes, from salads, cakes, sweets to curries. Further, the highly nutritious properties of these nuts, truly sets them apart from other nuts. With 38% omega 9 oils, 17% fibre, 17% protein and less than 1% carbohydrates, you certainly wouldn’t be feeling guilty enjoying these nuts!
